For the city. For life. For everyone.
We believe our job as Christians and as a church
is to first and foremost be the center of God's love.
God loves unconditionally.

For diversity

because we are not the same! We are a multi-church with many different generations, ethnicities, and social classes. We see diversity as a strength. Both to meet all kinds of people and to better reflect the diversity of God.

For the future

because it is bright! We believe that God has a solution to the challenges the society we live in experiences, and we believe the church must be an active participant in it. We want to build a church for the future, among other things with a strong focus on our children and youth. We will think long-term and always do everything to reach the culture and time we live in.

For life

because we believe in a life before death! We want to be FOR life, positive, joyful and focused on the wonderful opportunities that life offers. Without denying the difficulties and challenges it also brings. We also want to be a church for life, for all of life, for all generations at all times.

For Jesus

because we believe in Him! Jesus is the cause of the church's existence in the first place, and He is still the one who builds and leads it. He showed and shows us who God is and what God wants, and we want to continue what He began - in the same Spirit and power.

For respect

because everyone deserves it! We know that every human being has infinite value, is wanted and created uniquely by God and in His image. We believe we can only receive from one another when we respect each other's positions and roles.

For potential

because you can! We believe that in every human being there is an enormous potential that we would like to recognize, evoke and give good growth conditions and space. We want to promote growth and development and see opportunities instead of limitations. Your dream, together with others, can become our dream.

For everyday life

because life has most of it! We want to be church 24/7. Where we each live, work and stay. The Christian life must be lived out in the interaction with all the people we meet. Church services are not the church, but where everyday life comes together, is encouraged and celebrated.

For generosity

because we are most like God when we give! We want to be generous with our lives, time, resources, and everything else we have been given by God in the first place. We hope to become Christians who are known for not being self-sufficient.

For quality

because we are made for it! We want to do our best with what we have and want everything we have and do to reflect our perfect Father in heaven.

For unity

because there is only one church! Regardless of the number of churches and denominations, God only has one church on earth and only one group of children. Therefore, we will do our part to promote unity, cooperation, and healthy relationships both inside and outside the church. The Christian message is about peace, and we want to be known as peacemakers.

For the world

because we love the world! God sent His Son to save the world - because He loved it. We want to love people in every conceivable way, both inside and outside the church, in our city, and in our country. We also want to be a church for those who are not yet attending a church and we want to make a difference both locally and globally.

For authenticity

because the truth sets free. We want to be transparent as people and church. With honesty, sincerity and authenticity in our relationship with God, towards ourselves and in our mutual relationships. Be yourself… everything else is too complicated.

"A church that seeks the presence of God and puts Jesus at the center"

Hi! My name is Christoffer Engholm. I am 28 years old and live in Aarhus with my lovely wife Malene and our daughter Annabell. I study Communication at the Danish School of Journalism and in my free time, I like to climb at Aarhus climbing club and hang out with my friends and family. I love spending time in church investing in people, cultivating good fellowship and seeking Jesus together. I have chosen to attend Citykirken, because it is a church that is: Well-established, but still innovative. Cross-generational, but at the same time accommodates the unique interests and focuses of the different age groups. It is also a church that isn't closed off, but really looks towards the city and seeks to make a difference with the love of God. And most importantly, it is a church that seeks the presence of God and puts Jesus at the center.

"Has given me more than I could have hoped for"

My name is Rebecca, I am 24 years old and have been studying at a Bible school in Northern California for the last few years. When I was 12, I moved with my family to southern Spain for 4 years. At the end of 2015, I decided to move back to Denmark on my own to attend the Alterna boarding school to go traveling and doing missionary work in South America, an unforgettable experience!

When I finished at that school, I went to a boarding high school near Aarhus and looked for a church that I could call my family, as my parents and sister still lived abroad. In my approximately 6 years in the church, it has given me more than I could have hoped for.

Personally, I have attended United Youth, the church's youth community which meets to get closer to Jesus, have fun and share life and laughter. The church's community in both the youth work and the Sunday services have taught me how important it is to have a Christian community where we can gather around Him whom we all love and build each other up in our faith.

To me, Citykirken is a place where I can seek Jesus in worship and prayer, and at the same time be with good friends, have fun and feel safe and valued. Precisely what I have experienced in the City Church is what I am passionate about for all churches to have: intimate communion with the Creator himself and with those whom we can call our family through our shared faith in Him.

My Christian "breather"

My name is Tine. I am a doctor and married to Holger. We live in Risskov surrounded by the forest and beach.

We have no children ourselves, but have had the privilege of being surrogate parents for two children whose parents unfortunately passed away. They were active members in the then Pentecostal church in Aarhus and our long-time friends. The now grown children have become part of our big, wonderful, close family. Another "branch of the family" is our lovely "neighbor friends", "colleague friends" and many fantastic friends in the City Church that we attend.

Besides enjoying that, we exercise (running and gym). Holger also plays football and golf. One of our major interests is skiing.

As I said, I am a doctor and plastic surgeon and work with reconstruction (especially after breast cancer) at Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen. In addition, I am also a professor and responsible for research in plastic surgery at Rigshospitalet and for the plastic surgery part of the medical education at the University of Copenhagen. We have chosen to stay in Aarhus, as this is where our family, friends and church are.

To me, Citykirken is the Christian "breather", where the fantastic music and songs and the relevant sermons on Sundays bring energy to my life, friendships and everyday life.

My involvement in Citykirken and with emergency aid

At Citykirken, I am involved in our network group for medical students and junior doctors. We meet 4 times a year and discuss topics that particularly concern us as healthcare professionals in the modern healthcare system. We also have a Facebook group where we can communicate between meetings.

I am also involved in the board of the emergency aid organization Api-Aid. They are associated with the City Church and are behind the thrift shop "Smukt og brugt" in Aarhus Nord, which is run entirely by volunteers. If you come by, you might be offered a cup of coffee and a little chat. It's super hyggeligt. Api-Aid's activities and thrift shop means that emergency aid and money can be sent to, among others, Tanzania, Ukraine and Moldova - see www.apiaid.dk.

"Worship is like a fireplace on a cold winter day"

Hi, my name is Niels-Jørgen and I am part of the City Church. I work as a project manager and have a heavy technical background. I was born on Funen, have lived around Sønderborg for a long time, in 2014 I moved to Aarhus and now I live on Djursland.

You will often find me in the technical island, where I, together with other skilled sound technicians, ensure good sound for our sermons, concerts, etc. Since I was a child, I have always had an interest in music. My childhood friend and I built speakers, tested and tweaked them until we got a sound we were happy with. I don't have the talent to sing and play, but I do have the talent to adjust tones and thus create the best tone mix that can help people get closer to God.

In 2003 I said to God: "I don't know if You exist, God, but today I choose to believe in You." A decision I have never regretted, because God has always been faithful, regardless of what has happened in my life and I cannot imagine a life without God. I feel at home when I feel close to God, and I experience this most often in praise. The worship is a bit like warming yourself by the fireplace on a cold winter's day. When we sing praises, we can get a taste of what the eternities with God will be like. So in gratitude to God I ensure the great sound for worship.

We worship because we need God. Worship is, among other things, where Heaven opens up and where we can get close to God if we also open our hearts to Him. God has a desire to draw close to us. Therefore, I use my abilities and do the best I can to make people meet God as I met God.

"A little is a lot when God is involved!"

My name is Allan Fisker. I was born in 1944 in Grindsted. I grew up poor and had too short achilles tendons and therefore walked very poorly. I got orthopedic footwear and insoles and my mother sometimes biked me to school. I was therefore bullied at school and my childhood wasn't happy. At 17, faith came alive to me and it was a total transformation. The following year I was divinely healed. Doctors had said I was never going to walk well! Jesus changed my life, so I became a Sunday school teacher, sang in a string choir, shared my faith with others at outdoor meetings and met people.

I have worked in many industries, been married for 39 years and have two lovely daughters, three grandchildren and a lovely son-in-law.
For 25 years I have sent emergency aid to Latvia. I have also sent emergency aid to Tanzania, Romania, Cameroon, Nigeria, Ghana and a lot to Ukraine. The latter has taken place in collaboration with Citykirken.

Scavenger by the grace of God

I am best known from a TV2 broadcast from 2001, as the first to become "Årets Østjyde". In 2002, TV2 took me to Latvia, where there was an almost finished orphanage for 65 children with 5 acres of land bought for my recycling. For DKK 250,000 they got more than we can get for DKK 20 million here. They were given land, a building that could be renovated and wages for 5 people for a year. I lost my voice when asked my opinion on it. They gave me the title: Scavenger by the grace of God! I love it!

In the beginning, the majority was scavenged, but after the TV broadcasts I got things from many donors. Scrap metal, bottles, cans and lectures as well as a small support association and individual donors have made it all possible. A little is a lot when God is involved!

"Tell them what I have done for you"

Many different media have sought me out, because they find strange people interesting. I have also spoken in churches, associations and other places almost always about "You can make a difference!". I am a good storyteller and love to share my amazing life with others for inspiration. I can't stop talking about what God has done for me! I prayed for 6 months about what He wanted me to do and He gave me the answer: "Go and tell what I have done for you!". As the shy and bullied person I was, I didn't dare do it, but I also didn't dare not to! But when I did, it worked and I got gifts to talk. People stop me everywhere: Tell me about your life! And so I do that to Muslims and everyone else. I don't think any other person in Gellerup has as many Muslim friends. I have them despite being a Christian. I have lived in Gellerup for 46 years.

"After church I always feel uplifted and renewed"

My name is Ange Niyonkuru Muganji. I am 36 years old, married to Steve and have 2 children: Jeremiah Pierre aged 4 and Daniella Yara aged 2. I came here from D.R. Congo in 2000, but I am originally Rwandan like my husband.

I am a trained social worker and have worked for the Danish Refugee Council, but now work as a social worker in Favrskov Municipality.

I spend my free time volunteering, as I find joy in helping others, especially those who are affected in mind, body and soul. I also find energy in dance - using my body and laughing. I most enjoy spending time with family and friends in Denmark and abroad.

Since I started studying and attending the church in 2008, Citykirken has become my home. Here I have always felt welcome and as part of the family. In addition, I think that both the worship and service always contain something that is relevant to me and is therefore easier to remember and act on in my everyday life. Whenever I have been to church, I always feel uplifted and renewed.

I was previously part of the welcome team, but am now associated with the Family Network because I have experience working with the target group in my work, and have a desire to do more for these citizens. I see a great need for them to have a place where they are met with God's eyes, are encouraged in everyday life and get to know Jesus. I feel like we achieve that in the Family Network.

I want families in the Family Network to feel God's love in our space and to find a home in our church, just like I did.

"It is amazing to get to be involved in what you are interested in"

My name is Anitta Lorenzen Olesen and I am 56 years old. I live in Tilst with my husband of 32 years, Martin Leibeck Olesen. We have three children together, named Steffen, Kasper and Camilla. I work as a medical secretary in Aarhus city center at a specialist's. I spend most of my free time in the church involved in various volunteer work. In addition, I go to the gym, enjoy being with family and good friends and enjoy reading some books when I find the time.

I have always attended church, and I think it is natural to help each other in an association with the tasks that occur. For instance, when I was 12, I was asked if I would like to be a helper in the children's church. I said yes and have helped there ever since.

Since 2015, I have been part of the leadership of our children's church (MANGO) and I love it. It is great to be able to share your faith and life with the children and experience them achieve a personal relationship with God. I really enjoy being with the kids and giving my time here.
In addition, Martin and I are also part of a city group, which we are very happy about.

I think it's great to have a church to attend and that you are allowed to get involved in the work that you find interesting, and I enjoy being a part of the children's church. I really want the kids to learn about God and to take what they learn and pass it on to their friends.

"A spacious church where everyone can thrive"

My name is Doris Jørgensen. I have been a Christian since I was 19 years old. Now I am 85. I have been affiliated with the City Church since the 3 churches were merged. I came from the Apostolic Church. I am an employee of “Smukt og brugt”, the church's thrift store. In addition, I have a knitting project where ladies from all over Denmark knit for needy people. Over the years, several countries have benefited from this assistance, e.g. India, Romania, Mongolia and after I became part of the community in the City Church, the aid goes to Ukraine, which we support through the thrift store. I'm known as her who can always use yarn. I thrive in the City Church, love the faith-strengthening preaching and the happy uplifting praise, a spacious church where everyone can thrive. Maybe I should also add that I have 3 children, 8 grandchildren and a great-grandchild, which greatly enriches my life.
